James started his property career in the late 1980’s buying property and working as an estate agent in Central London. Following the infamous property crash of 1989/1990 James undertook a degree in Quantity Surveying before changing disciplines to General Practice and working with a Lloyds TSB owned company (Aitchisons) in Hertfordshire specialising in the Residential market before covering Central London for the same company in the late 1990’s. After spells at Countrywide and Spicer Haart Group James set up De Villiers in 2007 to provide valuation advice to lenders and growing the business through the 2008 financial crisis to today’s multi-disciplined practice.

James provides monthly advice on the Residential Market to the RICS and has done so for over 20 years. James has acted as an Expert Witness, appeared in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, written articles for the property press and given talks to banks on the Residential Market.
